Brooder light double electricity bill?

I was just gonna ask that, isn't the red better? Would a reg 100watt household bulb be to bright at night?

I routinely use 100 watt bulbs- as many as needed to achieve the desired temperature under the bulb and based on the age of the chicks.

Then I switch them to 60 watt bulbs if it is warm enough outside. But brooding over the winter, I stick with the 100 watt bulbs.

They do fine, even though I am not using red lights.

I found at the pet store, in the reptile supplies, red bulbs in 50, 75, 100 and 125 watts. I bought the 75watt for our brooder and I think it will be just right, but good to know I can go higher or lower in watts easily if needed!
