It was a washing machine box. The bracket???? The one hehind the heat lamp?? That is the clamp itself that the bulb is attached too. The mat is just the non-slip stuff you put in your kitchen draws! I might have to cover those staples

That's where you are putting the heat lamp?! Way too close to the babies. You want to provide a warm zone. You're not trying to cook them. Get a temp gauge and put under the light. Now raise it up till the temp directly under the lamp is about 90 degrees. Or you can ditch the heat lamp altogether and go with a safer and more natural method like a heating pad.

The temp is the right range for them roughly 35 degrees celsius. The lamp is about 15 cm away. It is only a 50 watt bulb so it doesnt give off much heat

Still awfully low. Chicks, even very young ones, can be very rambunctious. You don't want them getting injured by a hot bulb...

Should i put a little bit of mesh around it?

The mesh will heat up too...
Either choose a stronger bulb, farther away, or choose a different heat source entirely.

I cannot afford one of those heating pads. I do have a 100 watt bulb of these but i can't find a fitting that handles it! The fitting on this one is only 60 watts
