Ponds are deeper, I think. We don’t get lily pads growing in our sloughs. The bottoms are mucky. Maybe they’re the same, I don’t know. The ponds in the northern part of the state have different vegetation growing in them.
I googled, but pretty much knew, there are all kinds of bodies of water with all kinds of names colloquial and others.
Swamp, marsh, vernal pond, wetlands, pond, lake, river......on and on.

I read that a slough is generally attached to another body of water, can be a lake or a river.

Interesting. I can say that some of the sloughs around here are attached to lakes, and some are not. The one pictured is not. I don’t even know how many there are just in my general area. We are a part of the prairie pothole region.
