Candling eggs

i use a dark room and the flash light on my smart phone. turn on the light, point the light toward the ceiling, hold the egg directly on top of the light. tada!

a small flashlight works too.

I am hatching copper maran eggs and they are a very dark brown. I have a problem candling them.I have found the best way is on day 18 when I am moving them to the hatcher.

I turn off the basement light ... hold the egg between my thumb and first finger ...

and hold an LED flashlight under it.

Anyone have any better methods for those dark shelled eggs?

Hmm, i dont know of any better method, just make sure you are sortve holding the egg in a way that directs all of the light through the egg rather than around your fingers.

I hadn't thought of my phone flashlight. I was going to use an LED flashlight
in a windowless room. I have an empty cardboard paper towel roll that I was
going to use. I've read about people dropping the eggs when candling so I'll
prob use a pillow too. Lol.

Yeah, ive dropped a few in my time :( it's always pretty upsetting, the papertowl roll works well if your light is bright enough.
