My polish too had some leftover eggs after his elector psp treatment over the last couple weeks. I decided to just coat them with tea tree oil just in case they were viable. When I did this, some dripped in my roosters mouth. He was sleepy afterwards but walking and eating. I brought him inside so he wouldn't have to put energy into regulating his temperature (we live in Florida) and when I got up he was laying face down. He can move his head somewhat and eat and drink. He can't move his legs or get up. His eyes are open and he's alert. Is there anything else I can do for him? It's been about 24 hours since the incident at this point.
1. Polish lf rooster
2) he is completely paralyzed after ingesting tea tree oil by accident yesterday. I was putting it on his face over lice eggs.
3) this morning he was laying flat on his face and unable to move
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms -- no only he ingested it.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. -- he is just paralyzed but can move his head some. He's eating but I have to lift his head back up after he puts it down.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. -- ingested tea tree oil
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. -- I did feed him all flock starter soaked in save a chick water and offered the save a chick water as well. He can eat and drink but I have to lift his head back up
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. -- normal, a little more urates than normal
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? -- feeding the save a chick water and soaked starter.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? -- just want to stabilize him myself.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use -- I just have him in a towel now. He was in a cage with pine pellets which is our normal bedding indoors and outside.
