chicken can't see

About one week ago I noticed that one of my EE hen's had started getting lost from the flock. I checked her out and one of her eyes was a little red and puffy. I brought her in the basement and I noticed she could not find her water or the food.
Only when I would tap at the bowl would she drink.
Then she developed loose stools very bad smelling and this morning she was dead in the cage.
Does anyone know what this could have been.

Sorry that your post wasn't answered earlier, but only a necropsy would be the only way to tell for sure? If her body could be refrigerated (not frozen), it could be sent off to your state vet or University of GA.
