Hello has anyone experienced eye injury in chickens before?

my chicken got what looks like it’s eye is bleeding from inside. I think she got pecked pretty hard on her eye ball. I took her to the vet asap and the vet gave her painkiller injection and eye wash plus medicated eyedrops. I cant see her eyeball anymore, its all black with some blood. Poor thing :( she is eating and drinking just fine, but sits alot with her eyes closed. Her poop has become runny. I am worried sick about her, i dont know what else to do. Please let me know :(

I'm sorry about your hen.

It's good that you were able to see the vet and get medication. Hopefully the eye will heal with proper care and following the directions that you vet gave you.

If you wish, post some photos of your hen and her eye injury.

She will be fine. I had a sparrow hawk injure the eye of one of our wyandottes about 7 years ago and she's still walking around our coop today. Our Bantam rooster, Sgt. Pepper, lost his eye in a fight three years ago and it didn't phase him. However, he didn't see a red tail coming and he was snatched up and eaten.

The only downside to an eye injury. The chickens have only 125 degree vision instead of whatever it is, 345 maybe.

Thanks for replies guys, it just breaks my heart watching them hurt. I have a avian vet appointment on friday, a bit nervous for what the specialist will say. She is eating and drinking, but it does look like it hurts, she is sitting more than usual. Will she be able to see anything at all from that eye thats been wounded?

I am sorry for your loss, it is very upsetting! How long time did it take for the eye to heal?
