I hatched some chicks from a Silver Kraienkoppe cockerel x Silver Phoenix pullet. The Silver Kraienkoppe cockerel has a cushion comb and the Silver Phoenix pullet a straight comb. I expected all the chicks to come out with the cushion comb because I thought it was dominant. All but one of the cockerels came out with straight combs from the phoenix. All but one of the pullets came out with cushion combs from the kraienkoppe. It was almost a sex-link from comb types. The Kraienkoppe came from Ideal Hatchery. The only thing I can think of is that they must have crossed something into the Kraienkoppe with a straight comb and it doesn't show up unless you cross them with another straight comb bird because I thought the cushion comb was dominant over the straight comb. Is this hypothesis correct.?
