We have a black Australorpe chicken that gets what looks like crusty or muddy feathers on her chest. My daughter gave her a bath and washed it away a couple weeks ago but now it's back again. We're new to raising chickens so we're unsure what to look for. We've looked down by the base of the feathers to see if she had any bugs on her but we can't see anything moving or anything that looks like eggs. What else can cause her feathers to get so mangy looking. I thought chickens were pretty fussy about clean feathers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
