could someone who really knows what breed is what, write us up a "decision tree" so we can figure out what we have ?

like ... is the chicken BLACK / WHITE / TAN / SPECKLED / BLUE / MULTICOLOR / RED

are the legs YELLOW / GRAY / BLACK / GREEN

and so forth ...

that way we could at least make some reasonable guesses
(since the sites we are referred to, are sorted by breed of chicken, not by their appearance or characteristics ! )

if several could work on it, then post it in the "links" or "file" section, would save some of us some time in trying to figure out what the dickens we inherited, rescued, bought, or adopted ...

thanks

That is a simple request one that is probably best answered somewhere on feathersite pages. So many people have mutt chickens it would be hard to tell what they are unless you have an experienced eye for it.

Let me find a link for you and I'll come back and update this.

Try this chart at Henderson's Chicken chart

start with hendersons site, they give you pic and general description

http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html#b

I also use the hatcheries sites to see pics of what birds hsould look like ie Meyer/Ideal/murrey mcmurrey etc.......

I also like ALBC site tells of which breeds are doing good or in danger of going extinct, or somewhere in between

If you already have a chicken and not sure what it is post a pic, ad give a description and usually someone will chime in as to what they think it is.
