So Idk if im the only one who does this.
But living on acreage and forest whith some flighty breeds I've begun setting up 'hidden' nesting area's. We have 4 nest boxes to 9 hens in the coop, but there's another 3 wood boxes on rotation around our property for use as well. I've personally found my young hens love it so they don't need to fight older girls for preferred nesting boxes and they don't have the roosters wandering in and pestering them.
It also seems to prevent hidden egg stashes since theyll use the hidden boxes and not some old tire or a old dustbathing hole. So anyone else ever done this? Whats your experience whith it? Because the moment they see me rotating the outside nests they all get super excited and come to check it out!
Here's Tater tot w/ her hidden nest box in our old tractor.
