I’m looking for some help on what to do with what was the grass area in my ducks run. It’s now turned to muddy sludge as we have had quite a bit of rain…I’m in the UK so this is pretty standard even in the summer months. I have 5 Aylesbury ducks, they have a pool area with stones around it that leads down to the once grassed area. What can I do/change the flooring to, to keep it cleaner for them, I know ducks are messy and I love seeing them play in the mud, I just don’t want them getting sick from it. I have some turf that I’ve placed in the run, but not sure this is a good idea as it will just ultimately turn to sludge as well. I’ve added a picture of my ducks and their run so you can see what I mean.

If your able to lay down a layer of chicken wire or fencing that is half a inch above the grass, this allows the ducks to walk on top but not peck and dig in the grass. Overall, ducks are very messy and its super hard to keep their cages clean, maybe an all rock pen may be your best bet.

My suggestion would be bark chips. I have a pretty small chicken run because I free range, but I live in the Pacific Northwest so I get a lot of rain and that is by far the best method I have found!
