With the mild winter we’ve had (so far) this year it’s made me think about yard work much earlier than normal. Apparently, our friends at the extension office are having similar thoughts, please read the information below.


This is just a reminder that the deadline to register for our "A Day of Gardening" is Feb. 21st. The sessions are filling up fast. I have attached the link to our website where you can either print the registration form and mail with your check or register online with credit card payment. Don't forget to select the breakout sessions you want to attend and if you need a vegetarian meal.

We also wanted to let you know about the program below on Raising Chickens which has not been advertised yet.

The Duval County Extension Office/UF IFAS will be holding a workshop on Raising Backyard Poultry on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 6PM.
The topics to be covered include: Breed Selection, Nutrition and Feeding, Basic Management and recycling of chicken litter, changing city ordinance and petition update and general tips.


This workshop will be at the Duval County Extension Office. The workshop is free with light refreshments furnished by Standard Feed & Seed, Dinsmore Feed & Supply and Purina Mills. Please call Becky Davidson at 904-255-7450 to pre-register or for more information.

An “Eating and Growing Seasonable” Workshop on Saturday, February 11. 2012. This workshop will feature food demo/sampling using seasonal produce and learn to grow warm season vegetables. It will be at the Duval County Extension Office 1010 N. McDuff Ave. 32254, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Cost is $10 with Pre-registration and pre-payment being required. A tour of the Canning Center will be offered at the end of this class. Please contact Jeannie Crosby @ 255-7450 to register before mailing payment.
