Earthquake glue

My mother lived in California. She had some sort of an adhesive substance she put on the bottoms of knick knacks so they were less likely to fly off the shelves during an earthquake. I have no idea what it was or what it was called. I would like to get some so my cat doesn't knock stuff off the windowsills. Does anyone here know what I am talking about and where to get it? Thanks.

maybe sticky tack? it's less permanent than glue.

Maybe. What she had would keep things in place but with a little pressure the items could be removed. I will look up sticky tack. Thanks.
