I have a juvenile that I got from someone recently. Probably around 12-13 weeks old? He / she was supposed to be an Ameraucana, but when I went to pick him / her up at 7 weeks old, we agreed it didn’t look like an Ameraucana . She said to bring it back if it turned out to be something else (or if it’s a roo). I’ve attached several pictures, sorry if it’s too many, I just wanted to be thorough!
Does anyone have any ideas on the breed?
Also, I am really hoping for a pullet, but the older it gets, the more I think I’ve got a roo on my hands. We’re not allowed to have roo’s, and of course I’ve gotten attached. The feathers have never fully come in for some unknown reason, so it’s been hard for me to tell for certain. I haven’t seen any feather picking, or evidence of feather picking (no red feathers hanging around, no one is picking on him / her). I have no idea why the feathers haven’t filled in yet.
The feather coloring is black on the inside of the feather, red on the outside. I tried to take a close-up photo to show what the markings are / the real shape of the feather. The black makes the feathers look more slender and sharp like a roo. The best word I can think of to describe the feathers texture is “scraggly”. So ... I feel like I’ve got a Roo and that my blind hope is keeping me from seeing it clearly.
Any input / help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance
