First post here...Wife and I recently built us a chicken coop for our RIR and EE that will be arriving next month. For ventilation we have a 8" X 18" hole on the south wall and left the eaves between the rafters open (but covered with hardware cloth). Do you think that is enough ventialtion? Coop size is 8'X8' with a run underneath, and a pop door in the floor.

Looks Great!
How many birds do you plan on having?

Not fond of floor doors.
Will they not have a run off to the side?
We have 15 birds coming. They will have a large fence in run, and the bottom opens to release them to the run. its brobaby 30' by 40'.

Does the 8x8 coop size include the nests?
Is the larger run secure?
Why not put a pop door in the side of coop?

The top isn't covered. So we will let them out into the large run daily. We also keep 17 head of horses so we dont get to go anywhere. The 8x8 top does include the next boxes.

8x8 run is tight for 15 birds.
As is a 7x8 coop during nasty winter days.
Might want to consider a winter worthy run.
