I am doing the mother hen for a heat source. Do i neex to do a light so they can see their food and water at night?

Im not worried about heat. But if they need to eat or drinkand vant see....just dont want to go to sleep and wake up to dead chicks

They go overnight without feeding. Generally they go under hen in the evening with full crops. Crops will be depleted before dawn although chicks will have sufficient fat to get them through first feeding in the AM. Make certain they are well fed before going to bed but try to avoid having feed close to hen after dark as that can attract predators and rodents.

x2 no food or water at night- they will sleep through the night.
