Granny's gone and done it again

I wondered because when I first moved to NW NM in 1975 or so, I had friends who could not use the water in their MH, it stunk so bad. They could not shower, do laundry or anything else. I think it smelled of sulfur and there were a lot of natural gas and oil wells in the area.
This did not come from well drilling as it was the additive to make gasoline burn cleaner or so they said. Sulfur is naturally present in places around the country. I remember one artisan well (flows without pumping) that had a lot of sulfur in the water. I think Benzine may have been the problem chemical but not sure and to tired now to dig any deeper. I imagine being politicians made the error a lot of it got swept under the rug. It was big in the news when I first heard about it.
