I'm new to mushrooms. Mine are kept indoors (portobello) and its my first kit. My question is, if I allow some of the mushrooms in the bed to over mature and spore, can I use that layer of soil in fresh kits/beds and avoid re-ordering? This would drive the cost way down for me and allow me to enjoy them year round.

different species of mushrooms need different nutrients and substrates, some need casings and some dont, so I cant tell you exactly but I can tell you that the way i know of is you have to get a mushroom collect a sterile spore print, scrape the spore print into water, than you pull some of the liquid into a sterile syringe, let it sit for a couple days( to awaken the spores), than you innoculate you sterile substrate. , The rest of my method will not work with portobello mushrooms. If you put you spent casing into a flower bed or compost heep you have a great chance of mushrooms growing outdoors, givin the proper conditions
