Hi! I'm a first time chicken mama living with a mixed flock of Brahma, Faverolles, Araucana, Grey Gauloise, Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Silkie and what in France is called an Azure (although she lays pure white). Currently 11, all younger than a year. 2 roos, 9 hens, but looking to add some more because I don't want to say goodbye to my lovely boys. Trying to figure out how to give everyone in my eclectic flock the best life ever. Utterly unwilling to eat anyone, and occasionally a bit bewildered with having such a mix of sizes and two roos. We've got 5 hectares of pasture and some woods, and when we're around (almost always) the chickens have the run of the place.

I live in the mountains, foothills really, 600 meters above sea level, on the border between France and Spain outside a small village.

I've been a regular reader here since the first babies hatched last summer and have gotten so much out of it. What a great community and source of knowledge!
