Hello I'm new to signing up for this group. But not new to the group

Hello, I currently have 68 chickens in all. I have EEs, RIRs. Brahamas, sebrights, BLRWs, and many other barnyard mixes. I started with my son's chickens he moved so I was taking care of them. I didn't know that much at the time that was about a year and a half ago. Well they started to come up missing one and two at a time. Til I finally figured it was a predator they were all almost gone. I started saving there eggs so I could incubate them. I knew nothing about incubation at the time. So I searched the Internet looking for all information I could find. I made a homemade incubator and set out waiting for 21 days. I set 18. When they hatched I ended up with 3. Lol So I went to a farm I found on Facebook and the lady was so nice. She sold me eggs for $2 a dozen so I bought 4. I also bought a 9 week old rooster and 2 hen EEs. I thought if I got 3 chicks out of 18 eggs
I should get at least 6 from the 48. Lol Well day 10 I candled and threw out the 12 yolkers. On day 21 every single chick hatched 36. I now had an instant flock. I had 36 chicks. Meanwhile every week or so I was ordering 8 silkies. After reading so much about chickens during incubation and predator problem I grew to have a love and Interest for silkies. Most of my other breeds I aquired when I hatched the eggs. Lol. I incubate and raise chicks as a hobby and for pets. But now I'm growing Interested in breeding and genetics.

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Yes, I did reinforce coop and run area to take care of predator problem. I have been using this group BYC for over a year to help with incubation, predators, illness, and anything else that I have needed help with. BYC is awesome. It's full of valuable information and helps with any part of owning chickens. Also, I have been on silkie groups on here and am growing more and more interested in genetics, breeding and the showgirl stripper silkie. I learn something new everyday in this group. I am not sure how to add my state by my avatar, but will as soon as I figure it out. Once again, thank you. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
