We found a baby bird lost with the mother nearby on the nearest tree. The mother can’t find it, we put it in a box with water and food. Whats the best thing to do?

Call your local Wildlife Rescue and Habilitation station. Explain the situation and they will tell you the best thing to do.

If they won’t take it, you could raise the bird and let it go when it is older if that’s what you are able to do.

We’ve had this happen before, and we raised the baby bird until it could fly well, then we let it go.

I have rehabbed LOTS of wild birds. Pics would actually help. What you do may depend on age and even type of bird.

ETA: The pic just loaded.

It looks like a fledgling. Mom probably knows exactly where he is. He'll likely be fine if you put him back where you found him.

That looks like a fledgling to me. The best thing to do is leave it alone. Put it right back where you found it and the parents will care for it.
It has likely just left the nest, and the parents are teaching it to fly.
Unless it's injured, keeping it won't do it any good.
