Help! Heated Metal base waterer and extension cord??

I have electricity in my coop, but the heated waterer base I just bought online doesn't have a very long cord. It says not to use an extension cord....is there a reason why I shouldn't? Otherwise I'm going to have to return it because its not long enough.

I have found a lot of things say that. I bought an air pressure washer to clean out coop. Very short cord and it said do not use with an extension cord. I took it back. I should probably watch for that more often, I am the queen of extension cords. I think we are going to try to run power out to our chicken cottages so we can have power for the water dishes. I'm going to follow this, I want to know the answer too. Are you near Columbus?

Just use a heavy duty outdoor extension cord, as short as possible. and not a cheap indoor only "lamp cord"

Hey thanks!! I also called my dad and he said the same thing. He said if I used a heavier gauge wire it would be fine!
