Today we noticed one of our three hens was acting rather strange. Usually they all run towards us once they hear the backyard door opening but this hen, Goldie, just stayed behind and didn't move at all. She was just standing still and didn't come to eat like she usually did. She still ate when we offered her food up close though. We let her be once she decided to go into the chicken coop and into her nest. About 40 min later we went to check up on her and she was still in the coop but not in her nest. However, we found white stuff that looked very thin yet towards the end it bunched up into what looked like chewed up gum. We think it might be an undeveloped egg shell? There was also some egg remnant in the nest. Attached are the images of the white thing and egg remnant. Currently our hen is just sitting in the coop.

Yep, looks like a 'soft shell' egg.
Was the thicker part solid or....?
Would be good to cut that in half and take more pics.

Please tell us more about your birds:
-your flock size(numbers, ages, genders),
-your coop(size in feet by feet with pics),
-and what and how exactly you are feeding,
might offer clues to if there is a solvable problem.

yeah, the thicker part was a bit more solid. we'll cut it later once we are home. We have 3 hens and 1 rooster. Rooster is almost 4 years old and all three hens are about 1 year. The coop is a 6×4×4'. We feed them mostly corn with oyster shells. Occasionally we feed them small portions of lettuce and bread. Sometimes larvae treats.

They need a complete chicken ration...with all the vitamins/minerals/amino acids to use that oyster shell(which should really not be added to feed, but kept in a separate container)....or you'll probably keep having egg formation problems.

That looks like a burst shell-less egg and the membrane, plus a little tail on it as some hens will lay that have impacted oviduct and reproductive shell gland problems. The egg material bursting inside can lead to infection and more problems down the road. It would help to give her an antibiotic such as amoxicillin or Baytril.
I would also give some human calcium, such as Caltrate or Tums for a couple of days to help her shells harden. Some people see shell problems in hens who have recently had bronchitis.

You really need to feed either layer feed or flock raiser feed with the crushed oyster shell in a separate container. Corn has no other ingredients and only have the protein of a complete chicken feed. This soft egg below with the extra membrane is one of the weird eggs we sometimes see:
