I'm Jill and have been meandering around this site for several months now, as I've been exploring the world of backyard chickens. I glean so much from the vast knowledge base represented here!! I homeschool my 4 children and we have been reading library books, and watching videos on You Tube about raising chickens and have had so much fun. When quarantine hit we thought there was no time like the present for having some chicks to love. I ordered 8 bantams from Ideal Poultry (knowing we only had room for 4-5 in the coop I ordered). We prayed together that they would survive shipping, preparing the children that some might not. I almost cried at the post office when we opened the box and had all 8 chirping chicks accounted for! (One was iffy, but pulled through with lots of TLC.)We rehomed 3 chicks on Day 3 before we all got any more attached. Now our chicks are thriving at 6 weeks old. We have all bantams. 2 blue cochins (almost positive 1 roo, and 1 hen), 2 buff orpingtons (2 hens, I think), and 1 White Silkie ( I am thinking roo, but I read it's hard to tell). I am looking forward to learning all I can and bringing my children along for the ride!
