how long till the chicks dont need light

ha i don't have chicks yet but i really want some but first i am doing my research so i don't kill them.
so i know what to do and all but i don't know when to remove the heat lamp

Hello and welcome to BYC

Once chicks are fully feathered (at around 6 weeks of age) they don't need the extra heat anymore. Unless it's really cold. This thread has some very good info on chick raising:
