I got 5 eggs today and yesterday.

Yesterday's eggs were all dirty from a broken egg in the nest. When I was washing the goo off today one cracked in my hand. It went straight into the skillet with four more for my lunch.

i never know until the end of the day. I have chickens that lay late morning and late afternoon, and I have random older ducks that lay whenever they feel like it anywhere they want to - anyone else have shenanigans like this going on?

I only have chickens but yes they lay when and where they want.
Thanks heavens there is two coops.
All eggs are in nest boxes just which coop.

The chicken coop has a big window facing east toward the rising sun. Maybe that spurs my girls into laying early in the morning.

ooohh maybe that would be why mine are late, their windows are northeast and southwest sides .
I got 6 ducks eggs and 2 chicken eggs today!

3 today, Mei, Juin and Août.

Mei, my much beloved and beautiful Welsummer passed away today. It looks like she laid her egg, and then laid down in the leaves of her run to take a dust bath and died there. She was still warm when I found her. I’m devastated. She never even reached her namesake month of May, as she was hatched last June.

I’m grateful for her lovely presence in my life. I’m so glad I started keeping chickens, as I know the short nine months I had with her were well worth all the pain I now feel at her loss. What a treasure chickens can be. They make every day wonderful for me, and Mei was a sweetheart. Adorable, a gentle leader, and she gave excellent hugs. I’ll miss her, and think of her always.
