So my baby is 5 weeks, kept his(?)female looking feathers and is lookinf like a girl... idk if i vent checked wrong or what. So i thought id ask. What breed does my baby look like and gender guesses? He makes a weep weep weep sound which is so cute and if he looses me he makes loud weeps in super high pich. Hes super lovey, gives me kisses, perches on my shoulder, super amazing with my kids. Love this baby so much!

Honestly I don't know much about ducks, but I will say he looks like a mallard mixed with some other breed. However mallards have green heads so I can't say for sure.

I know! but i was told it was one of the breeds from the site of hoovers hatchery. I vent checked him, and i thought i saw boy bits before but the little white dot i saw was on the side not in the middle last night. He fights so i feel liike i'm hurting him. it bugs me not knowing considering i was excited to see him in his full feathered glory. he's also smaller than i thought but i'm new to ducklies as well so its hard to say if he's done growing yet. no drake feathers eaither.

Possibly and Khaki Campbell. I don't think Hatcheries sell mixed breeds.
i looked into tthe khaki's, it fits almost perfect except the collar, he is growing more permenant feathers showing that his face is staying cute striped and speckled, but his collar is fading in places and i'm not sure if its a fluke in his coloring or if i have yet to see green? i love him so so much but if he's a female like i first thought i'd love to get the special feed so eggs can happen eventually. I just can't find a match to look like him. He has white on his belly, but overall he looks like a girls in plumage and vent checking is so hard for me because he fights and i feel so terribly like i'm hurting him.

5 weeks is still young. The white ring around the neck tells me it’s a male. Usually their plumage will change as they get closer to maturity (they molt around 15 weeks). In the winter (as adults) they will get eclipse plumage and look like the females. I have some Rouen/Pekin mixes that I hatched out (mostly males). These aren’t the best pics but the 1st shows them around 5ish weeks and the single shows him at a year old.

They do change in coloring so right now it's wait and see.
If this duckling is a drake just remember teenagers go through a lot of hormonal changes and he may end up not being a different duck in personality. They tend to lose their minds when they become adults. I have 2 drakes and only one is aggressive and that is the one I hand raised because his mama tried to kill him. [My dh says she knew what she was doing] thats a joke. lol

But imprinted drakes have a hard time understanding that we and family members are not their property.

Keep us updated with pictures.

awww i hope he doesn't get agressive! he's my cuddle buddy, i'm loving on him right now lol He's my only duckly and he means the world to me, is great with my kids, i adore him! he even gives me kisses its like the best thing ever lol his collar is starting to fade tho so i'm not sure just yet.

I have pekin x khaki ducks and some of my brown girls have got the white neckline as well as some of my boys
Vent sexing can get dangerous and not something you should continue doing
Be patient in the next few weeks you should know by voice as a girl will start to throw a quack in with the peeps and a boy will stay the same for a bit longer
Eventually give a whap whap sound like a frog is in their throat
Both my boys and girls had that pattern of feathers till the first molt around 4 months or so then the boys got a whole new look and the girls basically stayed the same just a bigger pattern
By the time you need to feed the duck proper feed for a girl you will know for sure the sex of it
Younger pics were at 2 months. Girl is more of a brown boy is more of a black
Then at 5 months the same 2 ducks

I hope he /she doesn't either just wanted to give you a heads up so you won't be devastated when he becomes sexually mature.
