I got to play Oprah today

I just selected a team of 4 students to compete in a competition in Beijing in January, all expenses paid. Instead of emailing them, I called them and did the whole Oprah thing:

YOU'RE GOING TO CHHHHIIIIIINAAAAAHHH!!

They were so thrilled. One of the team members had just been laid off by WaMu and it'll be her birthday during the trip. I go goosebumps telling her.

Soooo fun. Last year I notified them by email. This was way more gratifying!

We're having a heck of a time finding a faculty advisor because of class conflicts. I've told my boss that I'd be happy to go.

I've never been to Asia!

Of course, the students need visas, too, and the Chinese regulations are such that you have to apply in person or have a proxy do it. I'm going to see if it's cheaper for me to fly to San Francisco for 2 days or to pay a company to do it.

Hey Jenn, for the students in the LA area, there is an embassy there that they can go with their parents and gt the visa. They have to have their passports with them.
