Chicago is proposing an ordinance to ban roosters, restrict hens to 6, demand space ratios, and require residents to mail letters to every neighbor within 500 ft asking their permission to have hens, ducks, or other farm animals.
Residents can also petition to make their precinct "farm free" with their alderman.
There will be a $25/yr per animal registration fee.
They are also looking to go after urban farmers as well.
Fines range from $100-$50p per day. This will go heavily against POC which urban farming is used in a way to lower food costs or used as an instructional tool for schools. Many of Chicago's Hispanic neighborhoods have animals like chickens as a cultural thing. This will further divide the people of chicago between the elite political "haves" and the rest of the city being the "have nots".
