We had 2 chicks this morning!

However, none of the 3 other eggs have made any progress at all (first one pipped about 21 hours ago). Should I be worried? Should I candle them since they aren't pipped? The humidity was only around 50% for Day 18 and 19, could they be shrink wrapped? Or does that only happen once they pip?

The humidity shot up after the 2 hatched, is that ok? I'm guessing since the chicks were wet so I'm not sure how I could have avoided it...

Help! I didn't realize this was going to be so stressful!!!

ETA: Brinsea Mini Advance, locally-sourced Ameraucana eggs, all looked good at Day 18 candle, if that helps.

Hello! Hope the meds work soon.

Glad you're recovered, having a molt going on here too.

Same here, nasty hard molt on two of my hens.
My best advice is not to overthink it.
All you can do is provide proper temperature, humidity and adequate turning. The rest is up to the embryo.
Is there a reason the temps were running up to 102?
I've never seen it before. Though I've never had silkies or cochins raise chicks. They take a fair break from laying while they're raising chicks so normally there wouldn't be any eggs to sit on unless they took over a nest where other hens had deposited eggs. How old are the chicks?
I've had an Ameraucana wean chicks at 3 weeks but all she wanted to do was get back with the flock.

That sounds like a wonderful day.
I love beaches with no other people.
One place you will almost never see other people on the beach is Cat Island in the Bahamas. There are over 30 miles of white sand beaches on the West side of the island and pink sand on the East side. As far as the eye can see and you're the only one there. Contrast that with Paradise Island at Nassau and there are thousands of people all the time.

Another wonderful place is the far south of the Yucatan. Very hard to get to but so nice to have it to yourself.

That is beautiful, CC. Wow!

I have a chick that I just helped out of the egg, and now I just realized that it's toes on the outside of it's feet are curled under the rest of the foot. Here's a few pictures.

I don't know if they will fix themselves or not, but the chick is only a few hours old.

How is your chick today?

It is normal for humidity to shoot up when chicks hatch. You have these wet fluff balls with that moisture dispersing in the incubator air.

All my hens except one penedesenca and one olive egger are molting. 2 eggs a day is a bummer. I think a couple are about recovered.

We've been very fortunate with sites we've found with my propensity to get off the beaten path and avoid the crowds.

When should I worry about the remaining 3? It's been almost 24 hours since the first one pipped, and nothing to see/hear with the last 3 yet.

I heard about the merger/buyout last night. Haven't been able to verify the validity of it. One article appeared as though it was a merger and they would both still be independent but carry each others product(not likely in the retail world)((especially amongst the two leading outdoors retailers)). Also saw that it was a straight buyout by Bass Pro. Not sure but Bass Pro has definitely been growing and adding new stores like crazy in this area. Unfortunately they are smaller in size and nothing like the larger two level stores I grew up remembering them as. Plan to go visit the new Memphis store next time we head home.

@ChickenCanoe

Not sure why it didn't quote the first part of your question. To put it back in context this was in regards to the Bass Pro/Cabela's buyout.

IMHO, I wouldn't worry. There's not much you can reasonably do at this point if they're not vigorous to get out on their own.

My wife heard about it a couple days ago since Bass Pro is about 10 blocks from where she works and Cabela's is on her way home, lots of people she knows either frequent them or work there.
Cabela's has been losing market share for a few years and has been trying to sell for some time. One report says it's 5.5 Billion.
That will double the stores but there will probably be stores of both chains closed if they compete locally.

I always thought Cabela's was more hunting oriented and Bass Pro was more fishing oriented though they really thoroughly overlap.
Bass Pro is headquartered right here in Springfield, MO. Their flagship store there is amazing. Cabela's is in Nebraska and Bass Pro says they're going to keep their operations there.

Yes. In texas, our daytime outside temps were reaching 102..... so it raised the incubator an extra couple of degrees. I was trying to keep it between 99.6.100.8 but we get very hot temps here.

I'm constantly adjusting the hovabator's temp a degree or so as well, for daytime/nighttime to keep it around 100.8
