International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hopefully the molt holds out for us both then! These chickens are stressing me out. Lol
I moved the first 2 hatches into a different pen/house without heat. They are 5 weeks and 6 weeks old. The 3rd hatch will be 2 weeks old Saturday. They went out into our new pen with heatlamp. I was so worried I would lose some but made it through the night. It got down to 60 degrees last night. The 4th hatch is less than a week old and is still in my kitchen. I am thinking of moving them out Saturday. I worry the light will go out. My only plugin out there is bad. The guy will replace it when he does the other work. I am worried about these guys all the time. I understand the stressing! We will get through this together!

Yes we will! Chicks are pretty sturdy after you get them past their first week. They can huddle together for warmth if it gets chilly at night. They should be fine. :)

this coming breeding season I have 5 cockerels to breed with her . need to find her the most compatible cockerel .
3 cockerels are splash copper ,they share a Dams side or the Sires side with her. so it sort of line breeding .
line all ready has been crossed ,so I don t need to outcross it again .will become too complicated to work with .

here her first mate .Blackgen BC from the import line { outcross .the only one }

I will be penning them together soon as she start to lay .hopping to produce nice BLC cockerels like they sire from this paring .

this guy will be the second to be mated to Dalakhania . he is big and long from the same line .cousins ,he is Splash copper . this work will be line breeding stage 2 .

Here are the three pullets I have growing out, just looking for comments to start the base of my understanding. about 20 weeks old.

I feel like number 1 is my best. Is it okay that her hackles are so long and wrap her neck? This first solo photo of ber is 4 weeks old she has filled out a bit. I’ll get another photo of her now at 20 wks if you want.

2 has feather shafting, a medium a feathers on the legs, a sort of low tail most of the time, but very wide. Is this a short back?

3 has a low tail absolutely no copper and just a very few mossy feathers. Tons of leg feathers.

What should I be feeling for amongst these three to see if there are redeeming qualities? Im going to hatch more from this breeder and one more later this year and hope to setup breeding pens, are any of these worth it to keep for that? They came from eggs that were a number 7/8.

I did a little brooder cleaning and separated hatch 2(KY boy Buster over my two girls). Out 17 I got 8 hens and 9 roos and a few of them not showing split wing. 2 hens and 4 roos look to be feathering out well. A little early to tell on the side sprigs but I am still tickled. Couple pics attached for funsies
