Hello everyone!
I was wondering:Is game bird feed suitable for button quail?
I would supplement with crushed oyster shell for calcium and crickets or mealworms (every once and a while) for protein.
Any other advice will be welcome.

Thanks for answering all my newbie questions! :)

It should be, yes. You might have to crush it up a bit with a mortar and pestle to get it to a size they can easily eat. It should have enough protein for them- quail ARE game birds, after all. These are just tiny ones.
Put the oyster shell in a separate container so they can pick it as they please, and be sure to also provide grit.

It should be adequate. My adults don't have any problem with the grain size. For new hatchlings I do crush it further, a small coffee grinder works well.

007Sean thank you for the advice. Since I will be hatching my own button quail, I'll make sure to crush up the feed for the chicks, and then leave it at grain size for the adult pair.

For new hatchlings grind it to a powder. And sprinkle all over the brooder floor. I spread mine out on paper towels, then use my finger to peck at it to get them started eating.
