So I had purchased two sex links which are supposed to be sexed at birth with a clear marking on its head which would determine the sex. Both of them did not have white dots so I was hopeful for two girls but now I am wondering if I have a roo. He or she is 5 weeks old currently. Let me know what you think. Thank you!:)

If they’re black sexlinks then you have two pullets. Males will be barred and the females will be black. I’ve noticed that sex linked pullets seem to mature faster and have bigger combs at a younger age than other breeds.
I agree! As long as this is a first generation sexlink, she's a pullet! By crossing Sexlinks, in the second generation the ability to be sexlinked is lost :)

To me it does look a lot like a cockerel
If in deed they were sexlinks, then as the others have said it is a pullet.
Where did you get it?

At a Western Feed store

If it really is a sexlink, it must be female. You are right about how the coloring works.

But if the store mixed it up with some other kind of chick, then it could be a male. Black Jersey Giants and Black Australorps are both fairly common, and either one could be mistaken for Black Sexlink pullets when they are young.

I see why you are concerned, but at present I don't know whether it's a female sexlnk who's getting a big comb early, or a male of some other kind.

I would keep an eye on it, and hope it becomes more obvious soon.

So I posted some photos of my baby a little while ago with concerns that “she” maybe a rooster and it just seems more obvious to me that he probably is one. But I wanted to post some photos of her to see everyone’s opinion now that she is a little older. Let me know what you think. Thank you:frow
