Is this cockerel a Barnevelder?

Trying to figure out what breed one of our young roosters is. We had a few black feathered chicks amongst our new flock, the breed list the feed store gave us included Barnevelder and Black Jersey Giant so I figured he was one of those two...but my son also brought home from school an unknown breed black feathered chick and he could be that one too.

He seems pretty friendly and calm compared to the other rooster we have. He's also MUCH larger size and seems to be taking longer to mature. He was more black until the last couple weeks when he started going that charcoal color and the red started coming out.

Not always. Hatchery ones end up with them less and less. I had one from a hatchery that was 'clean' faced. No muffs, no beard. Laid lovely mint green eggs.

No, the OP's bird looks like neither. Araucana are tufted, standard colored and rumpless. Ameraucana are muffed and bearded with slate legs; Also in standard colors.

Crossbred, possibly an Easter Egger.

Definitely a mixed breed. Definitely not a Barnevelder. Definitely a male. Probably an Easter Egger...
