Just curious if this is common among Coturnix?

Found a random mini-egg while cleaning their dirt bath. Kinda want to crack it to see if there's a mini-yolk inside.

It's a "fairy egg"! These can happen in very young or very old birds, or sometimes they form around a little bit of reproductive tissue that sloughs off (all normal). It should be fine to use, but it probably doesn't have any sort of yolk in it. Only cause for concern if that's the only kind of egg the hen lays.

Thanks for the info. It came from a bird born last Winter. In the 2 years I've been raising birds, I've never seen one.

You sure you don't have a button quail? Sure looks like one! I have never had a fairy egg layed by my quail...guess I've been lucky!
