I love going to my uncle’s farm. He’s got a plethora of chicken breeds that rotates every time I visit. He has a lot of connections through his past chicken fighting days. It lets him give away / sell and buy a bunch of unique breeds.
Since he was a teenager (50 now), he had been genetically manipulating his own fighting breed of chicken. It was featherless and all the skin was a bright red. He talks about selecting phenotypes and genotypes through breeding and observation. It’s all very cool. His breed is gone now though, since he’s gotten in trouble for the whole thing.
There was this single Indian fighting rooster there. It has huge feet, such a massive bird. I really love it when combs are crinkled up and blooming. This guy had a preference to hang out with the female ducks only.
Everywhere I looked, this flock was scurrying around in unison. Featuring a frustrated male goat in the back.
There were a bunch of Ko Shamo (?) bantams being bred. I’ve never seen or heard of the breed before. They’re Belgium imports, 150$ per bird without shipping included. The roosters here had huge, swollen and crinkled combs. In photos online I didn’t see that on the roosters as much, so he may have bred them or found them that way.
I should’ve taken a photo of the fully grown males!
My flock is doing very well, the older hen sleeps in the same coop with them finally. These younger ones are completely spoiled.
I had to bring them in for a cold front earlier this month. Since then they have come up to my door at a certain hour for me to put them away. The Silkie hasn’t crowed or laid an egg yet, but when it’s distressed I can hear it has a real ugly voice lol
