Langshan Thread!!!

I really like the black and the splash but the blue ones are pretty, too. If I got one of each hen, which rooster should I get to breed them to for a colorful yard?

Not yet. I am trying to get my breeding pens organized and I probably won't have eggs to sell this year. I am still building my breeding program.

I have a Langshan and a RIR chick which are about 2-3 weeks old and a Welsummer chick which is about a week older. The Langshan (which appears healthy) doesn't seem to be getting its feathers at the same rate as the other two. I was wondering if that is typical of Langshans, or if I might have a runt ?

My langshan was very slow to feather out, she was the last. I do believe it's a fact that langshans feather out slower.

Chances are you have a cockerel. If the wing bows have not feathered in at about the same rate as the rest of the bird, it is more than likely a cockerel.

This is a very smart decision! Build your flock before trying to supplement everyone else! Kudos!

I hope not, as I don't want to have to rehome it to somwehere in the country. I guess I will have to wait and see
