General eating and pies. Are the sugar pumpkins for pies?
This year will be Bloody Butcher Corn. Because of how corn pollinates, I can only grow one type at a time. Dad picked it this year. I'll be looking at grow days and see if any will work out to grow with it, the sweet corn might. Next year will definitely be the Glass Gem
So glad that you saw her. She looks very uncomfortable. She's okay, I promise View attachment 3711064
She just happened to land on a loop of twine and couldn't figure out how to fly off something so narrow and moving
She wasn't very happy. Figured out how to get down herself though once her rocking had slowedSo glad that you saw her. She looks very uncomfortable.
Some annuals reseed themselves, my petite marigolds come back every Spring. I planted morning glories over 10 years ago. They sprout and grow every year.My biggest issue now is I like a lot of the annuals. but I don't want to have to replant every year. I'm thinking I might turn my shallow planters into annual ones, since I don't think they're deep enough for most things to come back next year in
I do very little digging, most of my annuals are grown in containers.Oh I love annuals too! I used to start around 150 each year from seed. I just can't dig all those holes any more. Last year I only did around 50. Mostly vinca and marigolds. I always have marigolds and a few sunflowers in the veg garden.
It was still a lot of digging and watering.
Got to love it!
Glass Gem is my favorite! Once my family planted it for the first time, we wanted to plant it every time we have ornamental corn! Good thing you can save cobs for the next year! This year will be Bloody Butcher Corn. Because of how corn pollinates, I can only grow one type at a time. Dad picked it this year. Yeah, I have sweet corn to plant too at some point, I got it before I found out that they take on aspects that first season of pollination.Glass Gem is my favorite! (We plant ornamental corn when they have dent corn in the nearby fields, when it is hay or soybeans we plant sweet corn. Hybrid ornamental corn looks just fine but hybrid sweet corn tastes bad.)
