So our White Leghorn in this pic isn’t the actual momma.. she hatched 11 of her Babies under our trailer (roadside) and has been an amazing mother, teaching them all they need to know! 4 weeks later, this morning she left them and flew over 3 fences to come back and lay more! Side note: her sister saw her chicks the first week and decided to hop 3 fences and try to brood herself for her 2nd time.. ( of her first clutch, none hatched of 10-15 eggs :( .. and fast forward to 2 days ago, she had a clutch and only 1 hatched and is a half Silican buttercup/ white Leghorn and so we waited for the others to hatch, and all were duds.. so we caged her up for safety like last time and we come back home and the chick was terrified of her mom, she wouldn’t stop pecking her roughly!! So we said no no and pulled an ole switcharoo with our previous momma who hatched the 11 and bought 4 other bantam chicks at Tractor Supply (2 black silkies) a Dutch Bantam, and a Salmon Faverolle, we come home and throw them all together and added the “Aunt of the single chick” and she’s back to momma mode! She rescued all 5 and has been loving them all day, teaching them all the basics!
Just wanted to share! This breed isn’t a broody breed bu any means.. but she’s back at it again:) her and her sister were rescues stuck in a walk in small dog cage for 3 years, she’s loving life the way it’s meant!
