new chicks today

We just picked up 6 chicks today for our 7 and 10 year old children. We homeschool and when they started taking a homesteading class at our local HS co-op they decide they wanted to raise chicken. The chicks are 1-2 days old. I'm worried because they appear very lethargic. We have wwater and medicated food in the box and my husband tried to give them water in a dropper. Should we be giving them some sort of medicated water or should we put sugar in the water. I really don't want to loose any of them we already gave them names.

Well, do they know how to drink yet? Try picking them up and dipping their beaks in the water-only once, they should get it after that.

As for lethargic? I can't say. I just had my chickies hatch, and they sleep, get up and mess with eachother, nap some more...

New chicks need to be kept warm and free from drafts. They need fresh plain water and feed.
