New Hampshire Red' egg production?

It depends on whether or not you actually have a true New Hampshire or a New Hampshire "Red." There is no such breed as a New Hampshire Red; the true breed is just a New Hampshire. Hatcheries that sell New Hampshire :Reds" are actually selling Production Reds which are red gene mixes and marketing them under the label New Hampshire Red. True (heritage) New Hampshires are deep bodied, dual purpose breeds good for meat and eggs; and are good layers (3-4 eggs per hen per week) but not excellent layers. Production Reds (which is what you have if it was sold under the label New Hampshire Red) are not as good for meat as they lack the deeper body of the heritage New Hampshire, but they are superior layers with hens laying 5 (sometimes 6) eggs per week.
