Hi!
I'm very new to quail, I purchased a dozen hatching eggs from a local, reputable hatchery, listed as assorted coturnix quails. Out of 12, 10 hatched and 1 passed the day after hatching who happened to have spraddle legs.

They hatched May 17th and all but one are doing very well in the brooder.
I'm guessing this little one is the 'runt' but I want to know if there is anything else I can do. She/he looks like they are still newly hatched, barely any growth despite being seen eating and drinking and running around normally. This little one is named Peanut. I also noticed today when I picked it up that the skin above the nostrils was puffing up when it was breathing. No discharge or anything else noticeable.

On a 26% turkey starter, ground up with a coffee grinder. I attached a couple photos including one of her next to one of the mid sized quail that hatched at the same time. There are a couple smaller and larger than this other buddy but just for reference.

Thanks!

You could try some Nutri-Drench for some supplemental energy, but there's probably not much you can do. If this is a pet, there's no harm in seeing how it does, but don't be surprised if it quietly passes away.

If you are breeding for meat/eggs, you may consider culling.

Good luck!
Thanks for the insight! Definitely part of pur self-sustainable journey as a family. Not that they dont feel like part of the fam as we care for them before their end whatever that may be.

I will keep an eye out but I'm guessing it will likely quietly pass, as you said. Thanks again.
