hey i have a few hens have finished eggs laying and i want to cull them and eat them.
my problem is that whenever i boil them either slow cooker of on the stove, they develop a fishy taste and are unedible i was wondering does anyone have a way to counteract the fishiness ???
* i dont want any whinning about how i am mean to hens that have served me for so long bla bla bla bla i never kill hens that have served me well. thnx any other comments will be appreciated

I have never had a problem with a fishy smell.

I kill, bleed out, scald, pluck, eviscerate, then soak in water in the fridge for a day or two... OR, straight to the pressure cooker, 45 minutes, cool cooker with cold water, bones fall out and prepare.

Might try soaking in salt water.

What do they eat before you butcher? Fish smell comes from somewhere.... maybe too much oyster shell? (said tongue in cheek)

Good Luck,

Shawn

thnx but i found ouit the secret is instead of frezzing and pressure cooker and that seal off the chicken in parts in a pan with cardamon pods and mestika the boil it makes a world of difference
