Hi all,

I purchased this Buttonquail from a farm in Arizona back in October. I noticed within a few weeks, this eye was turning blue and he was having trouble seeing out of it. He had been with a mate until his mate passed away unexpectedly a few months ago. (I don’t know how old these birds are and she didn’t have any deformities that I saw.) I don’t have any other females to pair him with at this time, so he’s been in a cage by himself, but where he can see other pairs. Today, I went to water him and saw him like this. What the heck is going on?? His eye is definitely swollen and his crop looks to be too. His skin is yellowing under his feathers and his feathers fall out easily. I rinsed his eye with saline solution that’s why he is wet. His other eye is fine, but when he closed it as I was taking photos, I could see how yellow it is turning too. He is still very peppy and active. I started the whole flock on doxycycline. What is this disease? How do I fix it? Is he going to be okay?

It might be Coryza. I haven't personally dealt with this but it's not fun.
That’s what I was thinking via a quick google search. I was hoping not because I am 6 months pregnant and do NOT have the stomach to drain his eye. I used to but pregnancy has made me weak! Do normal vets see these birds?

Oof yeah I understand you, I'm about 5 months myself
You could see if a normal vet would see them. I'd also check if an avian and a livestock vet would see them. Since I'm not sure if this is considered more of a livestock disease or more of a bird disease.
Doesn't hurt to call and ask a vet! Best of luck!
