I'm expecting all the eggs to start hatching tomorrow, but we might get a couple today. I'm going to go ahead and make a safety hole for #35 either tonight or tomorrow morning to give this chick the best chance, assuming it's still alive and growing.

Good morning!

Bad news first: #35 didn't make it. I opened up the air cell last night and I saw what looked like active veins, but this morning I decided to go for the full assist and I'm pretty sure the chick passed when I cracked the egg. It wasn't as developed as you would expect.

Good news: We have so many external pips already! I see pips on 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 20, 23, 25, 27, 34...it feels like the more I look, the more pips I see. I'm luckily working from home today, so I'm hoping I'll be able to see who hatches from what egg!

I marked all the currently pipped eggs with *. I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more in the next few hours! For those unaccustomed to quail, my experience has been that the chicks still rest for some hours between pip and zip, but once the zip starts it's very fast. Fingers crossed that I catch any of them hatching, haha.

If anyone wants to claim and name extra eggs before the 30-ish quail chick chaos, be my guest!
