Good morning Everyone!,

This question is for West Virginians particularly in the Harpers Ferry/Martinsburg/Kearneysville area.

I'm planning my coop and outdoor setup, but I'm just moving to the area (from Central Maryland) How would you describe our climate? Where I lived in Maryland Summers were super hot and muggy and winters could be mild to cold. (it is inconsistent) I think I'm more concerned with the summer weather so that I can keep my chickens as comfortable as possible.

I'm raising Black Australorps, RIR's, Redstars, Whiting's True blues and Whiting's True Greens, 2 Beilefelder Roos and a Golden Polish.

Any advice is welcomed! Thanks in advance.

You can try posting on the West Virginia page, but doesn't look like it's been too active lately, there's members on there that are still around though.
Virginia page looks a bit more active so you can try that one too?

If you are looking for help with your coop, then you may want to just start a thread on the coops/run forum. Start a new thread, explain your location and what you sort of plan. There's some talented and helpful folks that give good suggestions that monitor those threads.

Hi! I live in Winchester/Frederick County, VA, about 25 minutes SW of Martinsburg. Our climate is pretty much what you are experiencing in MD. Very inconsistent here as well!

I live in the southern part (McDowell) 25 minutes from Beckley or Bluefield and summers are mild here(in comparison to places farther south)Building your chicken coop and run in a partially shaded area under some trees will make them more comfortable in the heat of summer. Wishing you the best!
