Really poopy butt!

I noticed tonight that one of my hens has poop all over her butt. She is eating well and active but her butt is a mess! I didn’t want to catch her tonight and soak and clean her cause its cold outside. Thought I bring her in early tomorrow morning and soak her and clean it up. If it is diarrhea, what can I give her??

Is your hen acting sick? If not, loose, runny poop may have other causes than illness - high water intake, foods with high water content, etc. If she is behaving normally and just has runny poop, try giving her a probiotic such as acidolphilus.

I agree with @azygous.

I would also clip the feathers around her bum. Some chickens just tend to collect even regular poop in their feathers especially the more fluffy feathered breeds.
