Hello! We have an Indian Runner duck we recently rescued with the help of animal control from a local park. She's a sweetheart. Unfortunately our Pekins (6) hate her. We have 5 females, 1 drake. The rescue is a female and is docile and submissive.

So far they bully her away from food & water, and especially the pools. Our drake tries to mate her 5 times an hour. She's much smaller, but takes it well. He doesn't even mate his girls that much currently.

The rescue duck is so social and wants to be with them. We tried temporarily keeping her in a pen to quarantine, but she was so depressed during that period. She wants to be with them despite the bullying.

Our pekins are nice ducks but are really being jerks with her. Any idea if they will ever accept her? We have never integrated only 1 duck before, which is probably our main problem. Normally we introduce 2-3 at a time which gives them allies. We also have woodland ducks, but she was more interested in being with the Pekins bc at the park she ran with pekins.

Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Hi! You could separate her temporarily with chicken wire, so they could see her and talk to her but not be able to pick on her. Maybe since your duck doesn't want to be alone when the other ducks aren't near her, you could put the pekin that is the friendliest to her in the enclosure.

You could separate with one of them or once the male except which is why he is trying to mate then they might just watch and be careful maybe you could post a video

If your coop will allow it, I usually put a dog crate in mine when introducing new members. That way at night they can see each other, but can't harm one another. It helps them get use to each other in close quarters. Other than that, I agree with others trying the females first.

One thing you will need to be aware of is the size differences between the pekin drake and runner hen. It is possible for him to seriously injure, or even drown her when mating. You may have no issues, but it something you should be aware of with such huge size differences.

I have a friend that had chicken's and a runner duck and the runner duck made a place on their hen so whatever you do don't put a duck in with hens the same thing will happen it's called a gang rape which the friends removed the duck from the chickens and everything turned out ok.
