Ive been seeing this lately, and I've been wondering what makes a rhodebar?

They are an auto-sexing breed developed in the UK in the 1940-1950s. They crossed RIR and Golden Brussbars, to get the Redbar/Rhodebar. people are still crossing them back into RIR to keep egg production up today.

Okay spending that much on adults is okay in my mind. But never chicks that price each

My base Rhodebars are not that pricey. It's the improved ones that are more. Advice for buying Rhodebars... Do not purchase from anyone who can't provide you with pics of the eggs (make sure they ate brown), and pics of the parents AS CHICKS if you are buying eggs. Pics of chicks on hatch day if you are buying birds. You want proof of their down color. Thru must be wild type and easily auto sexed to have any value. To have more value they will have been properly improved with RIR type yet still maintain the correct barring and autosexing - this takes 3-5 generations of done properly.

I loaned my small bator and a dozen Rhodebar eggs to my sisters school to hatch. They hatched 5 pullets and 5 cockerels, so anyone wanting easily sexed Rhodebar chicks please let me know... I will not be keeping any of this hatch since I just had knee surgery about 10 hrs ago and will not be able to take care of them.
